Mack Brown and his UNC Football staff have spent June hosting several recruits from across the country as recruiting restrictions have been lifted. Although UNC has yet to add to their 2022 recruiting class, they have made progress.

The latest progress came on Tuesday night when a key five-star recruit made a big update to his recruitment.

Defensive lineman Travis Shaw is ready to take that next step in his recruitment and has trimmed his list of 27 offers to just four teams. Shaw announced that he’s down to North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina A&T, focusing on those programs for the rest of his recruitment.

The Greensboro, North Carolina product is among the top players in the country ranking No. 9 overall, No. 4 defensive lineman and the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Spots recruiting rankings. He’s a big in-state recruit that UNC would love to keep at home and add to their defense.

Shaw recently visited UNC, taking a trip to Chapel Hill a week ago. He followed that up with a visit to Clemson over the weekend. From there he decided to go with these final four teams as he told Don Callahan of Inside Carolina:

"“So, those four, I really could see myself playing at those schools. Those places have really made me feel at home. Those are the ones that have been recruiting me since day one and they’ve never stopped.”"

It’s tough to tell where UNC stands in this recruitment but Clemson does own the crystal ball prediction with all six picks. A good visit to Chapel Hill may have helped the Tar Heels in the recruitment but it does appear that they have some ground to make up before he makes his final decision.
