Will top-100 combo guard Jayden Epps visit the UNC basketball program?

Although Hubert Davis and the North Carolina basketball program have yet to extend a scholarship offer to 4-star combo guard Jayden Epps, he’s definitely on their radar.

A 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect in the class of 2022, Epps recently named North Carolina among the programs recruiting him hardest. Also included on that star-studded list are Connecticut, Georgetown, Illinois, Iona, Kansas, Marquette, NC State, Providence and Virginia Tech. Also involved in Epps’ recruitment are Arkansas, Florida, Texas A&M and VCU, among others.

Epps initially committed to Providence amid an NCAA recruiting dead period that wouldn’t allow for recruits to make visits to schools. Once that dead period was lifted, though, Epps backed out of his decision, and reopened his recruitment.

"“I haven’t lined up visit dates yet, but I know I’ll be taking an official to Kansas and Illinois for sure,” Epps told Sports Illustrated last week. “I’m still trying to figure out the rest right now. . .I’m just trying to prepare myself as much as possible for the next level,” Epps continued. “Now that I’m going through the process again, I want to be as ready as possible when I get to college so the most important thing for me is to get better. That takes care of everything.”"

Epps has a solid frame, despite being just 6-feet-2-inches tall. He’s a good scorer at all three levels, a solid ball-handler and a capable distributor. He’s got an explosive first step that helps him get into the lane and finish at the rim with efficiency. He’s also got an excellent midrange game, rebounds the ball well for his size and position, and can defend multiple positions.

A native of Suffolk, Virginia, Epps is ranked No. 98 in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s 16th among players at his position, and No. 6 in the state of Virginia. He’s ranked substantially higher in the Top247 at No. 60 overall.
