Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program are getting ready for a big month of June as they are set to host a few recruits in the 2022 class for official visits. But while we know of the ones scheduled so far, another intriguing prospect is making plans for the Fall.

Four-star forward Tyler Nickel is a player that has been on UNC’s radar for a while now and the Tar Heels first showed interest when Roy Williams was head coach. Now that Davis has taken over, the interest hasn’t gone away and Nickel appears to still be interested in the program.

Following an impressive performance at the the Hoopgroup Southern Jam Fest, Nickel caught up with Dushawn London of 247Sports to talk the latest on his recruitment. In the interview, Nickel broke down some teams that are still showing significant interest in him, including the Tar Heels.

Here is what the Virginia native had to say about UNC:

"“Our relationship has been good, coach Davis calls me pretty regularly now and coach Sean Mays has been keeping in contact when he’s not. Our relationship actually started to heat up when coach Davis took over and I like how he’s a high energy, genuine person. Also with them I would fit in perfectly because they play at a fast pace and give a lot of their guys freedom to go and create plays and do what they do.”"

In addition to talking about the teams showing interest, Nickel also revealed to London that he is thinking about visiting Virginia Tech, NC State, Iowa, Butler, West Virginia and North Carolina sometime in the Fall.

There’s no official date on when Nickel will announce his decision but he also said that he will cut down his list on September 5th. We should know by then if UNC is a serious player in this recruitment for Nickel judging by that list and his visit schedule.
