With just a week left here in May, recruiting will start to heat up in June as the NCAA will lift restrictions on travel. For the UNC Basketball program, they are set to host multiple recruits throughout the month for visits as Hubert Davis’ first real experience hosting recruits as a head coach looms.

The Tar Heels have yet to land a commitment in the 2022 recruiting class but Davis and his staff have plenty of offers out. Next month could be the first big step in landing a commitment this Summer to jump start this class.

And one prospect that UNC has their eyes on is four-star forward Dereck Lively II out of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. The 7-foot center prospect is set to visit Chapel Hill for an official June 8-10th but is also being pursued by other big programs including Duke, Michigan and Kentucky.

Ahead of his big month of visits, Lively recently caught up with Dushawn London of 247Sports following this past weekend’s HoopGroup Southern Jam Fest to dish on his recruitment and where things stand. Among the topics was the Tar Heels and Lively had some interesting things to say including the coaching change going from Roy Williams to Hubert Davis.

But the good news for UNC fans is that London still has a good relationship with the new coaching staff:

"“Our relationship has been great. Ever since Roy Williams left it’s kind of been hard but since I already had a good relationship with Hubert Davis it makes it seem like nothing happened. I’m still tight with UNC and our relationship has just been building. Coach Davis’ message to me was to come here and we’ll make you ready for the league. They’re just trying to help build me as a player and as a person.”"

That’s certainly positive news for the Tar Heels in this recruitment as Lively was originally offered by Williams.

The prospect is still trying to figure out his visit plans for the rest of the month but having one locked into North Carolina is huge. If Davis and the staff can make a good impression on Lively it could go a long way to potentially landing a commitment down the line.
