UNC Basketball: Tar Heels’ target setting official visits
By Zack Pearson
Recruiting news is starting to pickup here as we hit the Summer months and with the NCAA lifting travel restrictions in June, recruits will be able to start taking official visits. For the UNC Basketball program, they have a few visits lined up for top prospects in the 2022 recruiting class and potentially more are coming.
One recruit that Hubert Davis and his staff are still pursuing is five-star small forward Mark Mitchell. The Kansas native is one of the best prospects in the 2022 class and received his offer from Roy Williams and the Tar Heels in 2020 and since then, they have remained in contact.
The five-star prospect is ranked No. 13 overall, the No. 4 small forward and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Kansas per the 247Sports composite rankings.
With Davis taking over, UNC is still in pursuit of Mitchell and is hoping to add him to their 2022 class that currently does not have a prospect signed. However, the two sides haven’t set up an official visit date with is not good news for the Tar Heels.
Mitchell is currently setting his schedule for official visits and so far, five programs will receive one this Summer. Per Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers, UCLA (June 6-7), Missouri (June 12-13), Kansas (June 16th), Oklahoma State (June 19-20) and Duke (June 28-29) are receiving the visits as of now.
That visit list isn’t good for the Tar Heels as it has him going to in-state Kansas as well as fellow Blue Blood and hated rival Duke in June. Ideally, UNC would love to get him on campus and try to sway him as his recruitment goes on.
But for now, that isn’t happening and it appears as if the Tar Heels will have even more ground to make him for this talented 2022 prospect.
