Hubert Davis, UNC basketball program extend latest offer to class of 2022 prospect

The North Carolina men’s basketball program has now extended 11 scholarship offers to players in the class of 2022, as UNC head coach Hubert Davis made Oak Mountain’s Will Shaver an official target on Sunday night. According to Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan, the offered followed a series of text messages between Davis and Shaver over the past couple of days.

Shaver, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound center from Birmingham, Alabama, announced a list of “top schools” earlier this year that included Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Iowa, Iowa State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. But with an offer from the likes of North Carolina, one has to wonder if the Tar Heels could end up playing a part in Shaver’s recruitment after all.

According to Shaver’s high school coach, Dylan Bunnell, Shaver’s list of schools was simply “a snapshot of Shaver’s recruitment in a particular moment,” and not to be taken as a final list. Shaver also has offers from Auburn, Georgetown, Illinois and Stanford, and has received interest from Butler, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Virginia.

Currently a three-star prospect and the 147th-ranked prospect in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, Shaver is 16th among centers in the class of 2022, and No. 2 in the state of Alabama. He plans to announce his college decision on his birthday, September 17.
