Former UNC basketball player set to join Hubert Davis’ staff as graduate assistant

Brandon Robinson is just one year removed from his playing days at the University of North Carolina, but he’ll be back in Chapel Hill this fall as a graduate assistant on first-year head coach Hubert Davis’ staff.

Davis made the announcement during an interview with 97.9 The Hill’s Art Chansky this week, adding Robinson to a staff that already boasts Jeff Lebo, Brad Frederick and Sean May as assistant coaches, with Jackie Manuel, Pat Sullivan and Eric Hoots in supporting roles. Robinson and each of the half-dozen aforementioned staff members are all UNC graduates, something Davis emphasized wanting to do with the Tar Heels’ staff at his introductory press conference.

"“Brandon Robinson is going to be the first-ever grad assistant in the history of the men’s basketball program, so I’m just so excited about having him on staff,” Davis said."

A native of Douglasville, Georgia, Robinson came off the bench for his first three seasons at North Carolina. He was a freshman on the 2017 national championship team, playing just under eight minutes per game in 36 appearances. His playing time increased with each subsequent season leading up to his senior year in which he started in 23 of his 24 games played. He averaged 11.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game that season, and connected on a team-high 59 three-pointers at a near-37 percent clip.
