In his first month on the job, new UNC Basketball head coach Hubert Davis has been active on the recruiting trail.

The NCAA is set to lift the restriction that banned in-person visits or travel for prospects and coaches in June, setting up for a very active Summer. North Carolina already has visits set for three recruits in the 2022 class for the month of June and more could be on the way. A prospect that is still on UNC’s radar and is drawing more interest is four-star small forward Tyler Nickel.

The 6-foot-8-inch, 210-pound Nickel is a Elkton, Virginia native that has a total of 15 offers in his recruitment so far. But one of the teams that has been getting involved in his recruitment lately has been UNC.

North Carolina has offered Nickel, doing so with Roy Williams at the helm but now Davis has reaffirmed the offer and appears to be in pursuit of the talented forward.

Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers talked to Nickel earlier this week and the recruit revealed just how involved the Tar Heels are in his recruitment. Here’s what he had to say on UNC:

"Which programs would you say are heavily involved in your recruitment?“Most involved right now is probably UNC, WVU, NC State, Virginia Tech, and LSU.”Discuss your relationship with UNC’s staff? Where do things stand with them?“Head Coach Hubert Davis and Coach May have been the ones recruiting me and they have been very active recently with me and in my recruitment as of late.”"

With UNC getting more involved and both Davis and Sean May leading the recruitment, it wouldn’t shock us to see Nickel visit North Carolina this Summer.

Nickel also told Stockrisers that he’s going to trim his list in September and a decision should be made in November. If North Carolina can continue to make an impact and push, they should be in this recruitment until the end.
