UNC Basketball: Michael Jordan gifts Roy Williams special Air Jordans
By Zack Pearson
Being a member of the UNC Basketball program has its awesome perks for players, coaches and staff. One of those perks is the Jordan Brand sponsorship with Michael Jordan being an alumnus.
Over the years we have seen plenty of awesome Air Jordan retro player editions be gifted to members of the program as they have even been able to sport them on the court. But some of the best ones we have seen have been from former head coach Roy Williams.
In his final season, Williams sported a different pair of Air Jordans for each game, making headlines in the sneaker world with the rare and awesome pairs he was sporting.
However, his latest gift for his retirement takes the cake.
Earlier this week, the UNC Basketball program revealed a special gift from Jordan himself to the legendary head coach just a month after his retirement. The gift? UNC Air Jordan 1’s in a smooth Carolina Blue colorway that released earlier this year. Except these are custom for Williams as they include the UNC logo plus are inscribed with “Coach Williams” and Jordan’s autograph on the other side of them.
Check out the pair below:
The shoes come in an awesome box that not only highlight Williams accomplishments including three national championships, nine final fours and a Hall of Fame nod among others. It’s also features a small piece of wood that features three banners for UNC’s titles plus “The fastest road to 900 wins in D1 history” on it.
Now, you won’t find these anywhere on shelves or anything like that as they are a true one of one pair. The Air Jordan University Blue 1 shoe itself released two months ago and is still pricy on the secondary market and that’s just for the basic version of the shoe.
