UNC Basketball head coach Hubert Davis continues to try to build his roster for the upcoming 2021-22 season after he just took over for Roy Williams earlier this month.

The roster has seen some turnover in the past few weeks as they lost Walker Kessler, Garrison Brooks and Sterling Manley to the transfer portal while Day’Ron Sharpe and Armando Bacot are testing the NBA Draft waters. It’s unlikely Sharpe returns but UNC could get Bacot back for his third season.

The Tar Heels have also added transfers Justin McKoy as well as Brady Manek to go with their two-man recruiting class for 2021. And they may not be done just yet.

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, North Carolina is one of several programs that have shown interest in Iowa transfer C.J. Fredrick:

The sophomore guard entered the transfer portal a few days ago and is already seeing a lot of interest from teams. Looking at that list, there are some top programs such as UNC, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Kansas, and Virginia among others.

Fredrick averaged 10.2 points per game while shooting 48.3 percent from the field in his freshman season while playing 28.7 minutes per game. In his sophomore season, Fredrick averaged 7.5 points per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the field and the three-point line. Both very intriguing numbers especially for a Tar Heels’ team that really struggled shooting the ball in general but from the three-point line as well.

Adding a player like Fredrick would give this offense a boost as he would likely have a big role coming off the bench.  But just how serious is the interest? It appears as if we will find out soon enough in terms of where the Tar Heels are at with the transfer portal.
