The 2021 college football season is still months away but programs across the country have been participating in Spring practices, leading up to their Spring games in April. That includes the UNC Football program which is coming off an Orange Bowl appearance in just the second year under Mack Brown.

The expectations are very high for this UNC team as they return key starters on both offense and defense including Sam Howell, Storm Duck, Tony Grimes, Jeremiah Gemmel, Khafre Brown and others.

But the future of the program is going to be based on recruiting classes, something that Brown and his staff have done a good job with so far in his second tenure. The Tar Heels have turned in some impressive classes over the past two years and they are hoping to keep that momentum going.

For the 2022 class, the Tar Heels have just four commitments which ranks No. 26 overall and No. 4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The good news is that there is a lot of time left in this recruiting cycle and the Tar Heels have some big targets left on their board.

Among those targets is five-star defensive tackle Travis Shaw out of Greensboro, North Carolina who is one of the top recruits in the 2022 class. Shaw has a total of 27 offers including one from the Tar Heels, a program that is a legit contender to land him. But the big news is that the Tar Heels will have the chance to try to impress Shaw later this week as he will be in attendance for their annual Spring game per a report:

Getting Shaw on campus this early is a good sign as he will get the chance to take in the Spring game and be around the program. There will be limitations however as the NCAA hasn’t yet lifted the recruiting ban.

Shaw is ranked No. 9 overall, the No. 2 defensive tackle and the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina per 247Sports. As it stands now, Clemson holds all four crystal ball predictions for the talented recruit.
