Former UNC Basketball player Jackie Manuel joins Head Coach Hubert Davis staff.

Just a couple of weeks ago the UNC basketball program saw a rare shift at the head coaching position with Roy Williams’ abrupt retirement. With Davis wrapping up his first full week on the job, he’s already ready to announce his new coaching staff.

On Friday, the program announced that former UNC basketball player Jackie Manuel would be joining Davis’ staff, a new edition to the men’s staff. Manuel joins the staff with the role of director of player and team development.  He’s one of four coaches that were added to the staff that was officially announced by the program on Thursday morning.

Manuel previously held the role Director of Player Personnel, Development, and Recruiting Operations for the UNC Women’s basketball program for one season before joining Davis’ staff.

Manuel never played under Davis but fits the staff style perfectly as a player who stayed consistent in the four years he played with Carolina. A defensive player who ranked ninth in 2002-2003 for steals in the ACC as well as ranking 10th in steals for the 2004-2005 season. Manuel also took home ACC All-Defense honors in back-to-back years, 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.

Manuel a member of the 2005 national championship team and one of the better lockdown defenders brings a world of experience to an already experienced coaching staff.
