Just over a week after it was announced that Hubert Davis would be taking over for the legendary Roy Williams as the next head coach of the UNC Basketball program, he officially announced his new staff.
On Thursday, the program sent out a release to officially name members of Davis’ staff as he filled out the positions this week. Brad Frederick will remain on staff for is ninth year and his fifth as a coach on the bench while Sean May has been elevated to assistant coach, Jeff Lebo has been brought in as an assistant coach and Jackie Manuel has been added as director of player and team development.
Eric Hoots will now serve as director of basketball operations as well as assistant to the athletic director while director of strength and conditioning Jonas Sahratian and head athletic trainer Doug Halverson will remain on staff.

After spending four years at North Carolina, Lebo went into the coaching ranks and has 28 years of experience including 20 as head coach at Auburn, Chattanooga, ECU and Tennessee Tech. He joins the staff as a new assistant under Davis.
May received a promotion to assistant coach after spending six seasons under Roy Williams including the last four as director of basketball operations. He was rumored to be in the mix for a job at Indiana in his home state but has stayed after receiving the promotion. The former center had a decorated career at North Carolina, helping the Tar Heels win the 2005 National Championship over Illinois while being named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player.
Another former Tar Heel from that 2005 squad is also on staff. After serving as Director of Player Personnel, Development and Recruiting Operations for the women’s program last year, Manuel now joins the men’s program in a similar role. In that 2004-05 title year, Manuel earned All-ACC Defensive honors and was Carolina’s Defensive Player of the Year.
After playing under Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge, Frederick has a long coaching history as well, with 22 years of experience. He joined the Tar Heels prior to the 2013-14 season and has been an assistant coach since 2017.
