UNC Basketball: Tar Heels offer former Oklahoma forward
By Zack Pearson
Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program just keep adding targets to their big board as they look to round out their roster for the 2021-22 season.
After landing former Virginia standout Justin McKoy in the transfer portal, Davis and his staff then reached out to Creighton transfer Christian Bishop and offered him on Tuesday. Now, they are after another forward but this time from the Big 12.
According to reports, the Tar Heels have officially offered former four-star recruit and forward Brady Manek. The forward announced he was transferring out of Oklahoma a few weeks back as the program moves on with new head coach Porter Moser taking over for retired Lon Kruger.
In 25 games last season, the 6-foot-9, 231-pound Manek averaged 10.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 0.8 assists for the Sooners. He’s a stretch 4 that can really shoot the ball and would bring a much needed element to the Tar Heels offense as they struggled to shoot the ball from the floor last season.
Manek played in 122 games and started 111 of those over his four seasons with the program, being the third option in his final season there. He’s already heard from a few different programs and now with UNC in the mix, things could start to heat up for Manek moving forward.
With some uncertainty about the roster for next season, expect to hear a lot more on offers and interests for the program in transfer portal recruits. As it stands now, UNC really doesn’t have a legit big man on their roster but they could see Armando Bacot withdraw from the NBA Draft and return for another year to work on his game. That would certainly be a much-needed boost for the program in terms of returning a big talent.
