UNC Basketball: Tar Heels offer Creighton transfer
By Zack Pearson
New UNC Basketball head coach Hubert Davis has been active on the recruiting trail in just his first week on the job. Last week he landed former Virginia forward Justin McKoy as a transfer commitment.
While doing that, he was actively attempting to convince Walker Kessler to stay at UNC rather than transfer. Kessler opted to leave the program and join Auburn, putting a dent into Davis’ plans for his roster. But now, another transfer is earning the attention of Davis and his staff.
Creighton forward Christian Bishop is receiving interest from North Carolina and on Tuesday, the Tar Heels officially offered the recruit per Inside Carolina.
The small forward averaged 11 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for Creighton last year and did shoot 68 percent from the floor, an eye-popping number. He started all 31 games for Creighton and averaged 13 points in three NCAA Tournament games. With some needs at the forward position, Bishop could make sense for Davis on his roster.
The former three-star recruit entered the transfer portal after three seasons with Creighton and has already drawn interest from several programs. Kansas, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, Illinois, Missouri, UNLV, Arkansas and Minnesota are just some of the schools to reach out and make contact, and now we can add UNC to that list as well.
With teams interested, Bishop’s new recruitment is starting to heat up. Earning offers from Blue Bloods like Kansas and North Carolina could provide some changes for his recruitment as well. But for now it doesn’t appear as if Bishop does have a date set to announce.
Davis and the Tar Heels are expected to continue to be players in the portal, seeking out targets to fill their roster out. In what is already a very active portal in terms of transfers and commitments, it shouldn’t be surprising to hear UNC’s name mentioned for recruits in the coming days.
