New UNC Basketball head coach Hubert Davis was introduced for the first time on Tuesday, holding a press conference to make it all official just under a week since Roy Williams announced his retirement.

Davis takes over the job for the legendary Williams and now has some big shoes to fill as he hopes to get the Tar Heels back to glory. While he met the media for the first time on Tuesday to answer questions, the head coach revealed his plans moving forward for the program including some interesting notes about the roster.

Among a few different points that was mentioned is the status of former five-star recruit Walker Kessler who announced his decision to transfer just a few days after the 2020-21 season concluded.

But Davis hasn’t waived the white flag on a Kessler return just yet. The head coach mentioned on Tuesday that he has reached out to Kessler via text and that the program would love to have him back next season:

Alright!

Kessler and his father had an emotional meeting with Williams a few days after the season ended which was then proceeded by him announcing his transfer. The five-star recruit loves the program and Chapel Hill but is looking for a better fit on the court moving forward.

However, the hiring of Davis could change that depending on what he is telling Kessler his role moving forward could be. Kessler reportedly wants to be more of a stretch player at the four spot and with only Armando Bacot currently set to return, there’s room for him to do that. I don’t know how good UNC’s chances are at convincing him to stay, but I do feel better about this than I did a few days back.

Kessler averaged 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and shot 57.8 percent from the field coming off the bench last season.

Next. UNC's 2021 recruits stay committed. dark
