Why former Tar Heel and four-time NBA All-Star Rasheed Wallace could be a good fit for the UNC basketball program

I joked the other night on the UNC Hoops Talk Podcast with Dan Dewitt that the Tar Heels should hire Rasheed Wallace as their next men’s basketball head coach. He was my ‘wild card’ sandwiched between the “in-the-family” Hubert Davis option, and the conservative hire of Tony Bennet, an outstanding coach in his own right at the University of Virginia.

While I enjoy bringing a smile and getting a laugh out of a quick quip, there is some merit to the Sheed hire, which, to be clear, I don’t actually foresee happening. As a part of Tar Heel nation, I know that we are all still processing, healing even, from the retirement of the legendary Roy Williams. Additionally, we may have some anxiety about the next hire at head coach. Until UNC AD Bubba Cunningham announces the next coach, let’s relax and humor the possibility of UNC being lead by Rasheed Wallace.
