Porter Moser

By Zack Pearson

An option that is outside of the family for the Tar Heels is Loyola-Chicago head coach Porter Moser. After taking the Ramblers to the Final Four in 2018 with a remarkable run that shocked everyone.

That put Moser’s name on the map nationally, although those in Chicago will tell you he’s  been a hell of a coach for a few years.

In 2021, Moser led the Ramblers back to the tournament by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Ramblers beat Georgia Tech in the first round and then stunned No. 1 seed Illinois by double-digits in the second round before seeing their tournament come to an end in the Sweet 16.

Moser is going to be a hot coaching name in terms of job openings around college basketball, and why not now? The Tar Heels should show interest in Porter, and at least inquire about an interview.

The money could draw him away from Loyola, and having the prestige that UNC has, it might be hard for an up-and-coming coach like Moser to turn it down. That would be especially true if they give him a “blank check” as an offer. He would be among my top candidates for the job with a stock that is really high.
