Just one week after the UNC Basketball program saw their 2020-21 season come to an end in disappointing fashion, a few players have made decisions on their future. First, Walker Kessler announced he was transferring and then a day later it was Day’Ron Sharpe choosing to go to the NBA.

But as we hit the weekend, UNC received some good news from another freshman.

Point guard Caleb Love announced on Friday night that he’s set to return for another season in Chapel Hill with the Tar Heels. That’s huge news for the program, considering where they were a week ago with rumors of a mass exodus out there.

The former five-star recruit out of Missouri was the highest-rated recruit in the Tar Heels 2020 recruiting class that was ranked No. 2 overall. In his first season in Chapel Hill, Love struggled early on with consistency but did get better as time goes on.

He averaged 10.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 31.6 percent from the field. It’s clear he does need to improve on his shooting including from the three-point line which he shot 26 percent from.

However, this is good news as UNC does return a key member of their starting lineup. With R.J. Davis and Anthony Harris both expected back, the Tar Heels are deep at guard which is a good sign moving forward.

The Tar Heels aren’t out of the woods yet on decisions but it does appear that the player interviews for the end of season are complete. It shouldn’t be long before we know the decisions on the remaining players from the roster. That will also help Roy Williams if he has to make some decisions in terms of the transfer portal.
