The comeback against Florida State

Not only did North Carolina pull off an insane comeback against Florida State, but it was also a historic night. The stage was set as the Tar Heels welcomed fans back to the Dean Smith Center since the pandemic started. As the underdogs, UNC took on 11th-ranked FSU with Roy Williams sitting at 899 wins on his legendary career.

In the first six minutes of action North Carolina kept it competitive, but the Seminoles soon began to dominate, getting the lead as much as 17 points. The Tar Heels went into the half down 41-29 with hope and cheers of Tar Heel nation echoing throughout.

The second half came and so did the Tar Heels, led by freshman Walker Kessler. Kessler, who came off the bench, had six straight points — part of a 10-0 Carolina run to start the half. The Tar Heels continued to dominate, forcing the Seminoles into turnovers and making it look like the comeback was in full effect. After a Leaky Black jumper, the Tar Heels tied it up at 44 points a piece, and that’s when their run started.

With time winding down and emotions running high, the Tar Heels kept their feet on the gas. Caleb Love hit the final two free throws that gave UNC the 78-70 win over Florida State. Walker Kessler finished with 20 points, while shooting 9-for-10 from the floor.

Love finished with 12 points, and Kerwin Walton contributed 13. North Carolina pulled off the upset comeback win, with Roy Williams taking the spot as the fastest head coach to win 900 games.

It was truly a special moment.
