Biscuits in the ACC Tournament

By Andrew Reynolds

As we recap the 2020-21 UNC basketball season here at Keeping it Heel, we reminisce over a dominant 101-59 victory over Notre Dame. It was a night where UNC turned a once semi-competitive 50-36 Tar Heel lead at halftime into one of the most lopsided games in recent UNC basketball history.

In this game, North Carolina saw three remarkable double-doubles by sophomore Armando Bacot (20 points and 13 rebounds), Day’Ron Sharpe (14 points and 10 rebounds) and Walker Kessler (16 points and 12 rebounds).

In the second half, with North Carolina already up 59-47, the Tar Heels went on a 15-0 run to push the lead to an incredible 74-47 before Notre Dame finally made a two-point basket. UNC apparently felt like a 74-49 lead wasn’t enough, and went on a huge 22-0 tear that extended for almost seven minutes. This made the already out-of-reach game even more insurmountable with a score of 96-49. The game gave UNC a great start to the ACC Tournament, and was their only “biscuit-worthy” performance of the season.

After coming within nine points in a 91-87 victory against Duke in early February, North Carolina suffered a postponement, a loss to Virginia and another postponement against Virginia Tech. While North Carolina picked up an 82-62 win against Northeastern, it was not even close to the 100-point threshold.

On the Saturday matchup against Louisville on Feb. 20,  UNC came within one point of getting free biscuits for fans, as they clipped the Cardinals by a final score of 99-54. But this time against Notre Dame, UNC finally delivered free biscuits to the fans, and it was the only time this season.
