The college basketball offseason is expected to be a crazy one with players eligible to receive another year and already the transfer portal has seen their fair share of players entering their name.

For the UNC Basketball program, there is some uncertainty and they know they have to fill two positions as Walker Kessler announced he was transferring and Day’Ron Sharpe entering the NBA Draft. Their still could be other moves made as the Tar Heels coaching staff is going through their end of season meetings with current players.

But one player that is for sure keeping an eye on the UNC situation is former Louisville four-star commit Bobby Pettiford.

The recruit decommitted just over a week ago after Chris Mack announced that two assistants would not return to staff. Pettiford joined fellow commit Eric Van Der Heijden in decommitting as that’s a huge blow to the Cardinals program. Pettiford hasn’t spoken to UNC just yet but he told Eric Bossi of 247 Sports that he has his eye on the program and the situation that is going on.

"“North Carolina, there is a little bit of buzz. They are trying to see what their guys, who are there, are going to do. They are waiting to see. They’ve had their meetings with their big guys and are getting down to their guards. My coaches have talked their coaches a little bit and they said they are going to reach out once they figure out what everybody’s plans were.”"

Pettiford told Bossi that UNC has completed their meetings with the bigs but the position he’s looking at is guard. Currently UNC has Caleb Love, R.J. Davis and Anthony Harris as their three primary guards, with Andrew Platek graduating.

The recruit is likely awaiting to see what decisions those three make before showing his interest in UNC. It’s no guarantee Pettiford would come to UNC even if the Tar Heels see one of their guards leave the program but there does appear to be interest there.
