UNC basketball program gets blown out by Wisconsin Badgers in Round of 64, ending Roy Williams’ streak of wins in opening round of NCAA Tournament.

Final. 85. 493. 62. 441

After the Tar Heels’ embarrassing 85-62 defeat to the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday night, Roy Williams is now 29-1 in the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 64.

The Tar Heels trailed early and throughout, as the Badgers hit nearly 51 percent of their shots for the game, and connected on an outstanding 13-of-27 from three point range. The Wisconsin attack was led by Brad Davison, who scored a game-high 29 points on a 10-for-15 shooting performance that included five made three-pointers. Davison also hit all four of his free throw attempts, had six rebounds and four circus shots. The Badgers got 21 points from D’Mitrik Trice, who hit 8-of-15 shots and 3-of-8 from long-range.

Armando Bacot led the Tar Heels with a team-high 15 points, all of which came in the second half. He shot 6-for-9 from the floor, and hit all three of his free throw attempts. He was held to just four rebounds, the fewest he’s had since a February 27 win over Florida State. Garrison Brooks and Caleb Love were the only other Tar Heels to score in double-figures against the Badgers; they each had 10.

The Tar Heels shot just 38.5 percent for the game, and from three-point range. They somehow got outrebounded by three boards, despite having a massive size advantage over the Badgers. They only committed 10 turnovers on the game, but their inability to hit a shot to save their lives doomed them. They finish the 2020-21 season with 18 wins and 11 losses.

In the upcoming offseason, a few Tar Heels will be faced with the decision to leave North Carolina or return to campus next season. We should begin to get word of said decisions in the coming weeks, and we’ll follow it.
