As the UNC Basketball program continues to navigate this season with the ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament, Roy Williams and his staff haven’t taken their eyes of future recruiting targets.

One of the top recruits for any future classes for UNC is five-star point guard Robert Dillingham, an in-state recruit that received his official offer from the program on Christmas. With the weeks going by, Dillingham continues to be a recruit that the Tar Heels “must-have” moving forward as part of the 2023 class.

While there is still a long way to go in his recruitment, there are some positive signs regarding the Tar Heels. Most recently, Dillingham mentioned the Tar Heels and Kansas Jayhawks as the two programs that are showing the most interest in him.

The most recent news regarding Dillingham isn’t about what teams are involved but instead his updated ranking in the 2023 class.

247 Sports decided to update their 2023 recruiting rankings this week and Dillingham checked in at No. 2 at his position and No. 9 overall in a which is loaded for point guards. Here is what analyst Tavis Branham had to say about Dillingham:

"Another modern point guard, Robert Dillingham, has separated himself early due to his elite shot-creating and shot-making ability. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect out of Charlotte (N.C.) Combine Academy is dynamic with the basketball in his hands. He’s shifty with high level ball skills, able to create separation with ease before rising up and knocking down tough pull-up jumpers that few can consistently do at this stage of development. While he is a great scorer, he is expanding his impact as a playmaker due to the attention he demands from help-side defenders and attacking the rim more."

The 2023 class still has a ways to go before it’s all settled but it’s clear that Dillingham is going to be that key recruit for Williams and his staff. The fact that he’s in the state of North Carolina makes it that much bigger too as Williams has had a knack for getting the top recruits out of North Carolina.

Next. Will this recruit be UNC's first commit in 2023?. dark
