UNC Basketball: Roy Williams teams with Dunkin’ Donuts to make ‘Ol Roy’
Longtime UNC basketball head coach Roy Williams has teamed with Dunkin’ Donuts to create the “Ol Roy”, putting a Carolina spin on the Hall-of-Famer’s favorite doughnut.
Fresh off he and his wife’s $3 million pledge to the University of North Carolina in support of multiple scholarship funds, Roy Williams has teamed up with Dunkin’ Donuts to create the “Ol Roy”, a limited-time-only pastry that will support a pair of charitable causes.
The “Ol Roy” — a chocolate-covered doughnut with custard filling and Carolina blue icing — is Williams’ favorite Dunkin’ doughnut. And as reported by The News and Observer on Tuesday March 9, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Williams-inspired doughnut will go toward the UNC Children’s Hospital and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
"“I am grateful for the opportunity to team with Dunkin’ to provide financial assistance to these worthy causes through the sale of this custom Boston Crème. It’s a fun way for fans of all teams to support the work at the Children’s Hospital and Food Bank,” said Williams in a press release."
The doughnut will be available for purchase throughout the state of North Carolina between March 14 and March 27, and 50 cents from the sale of each will be donated.
It’s unclear at this time how many doughnuts Williams and his team will consume in the coming weeks, but we do know that they’ll be anxiously awaiting their seeding for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, which will be announced live on CBS tonight at 6:00 p.m. EST.
