Former UNC basketball sharpshooter Kenny Williams scored a team-high 20 points in the Spurs’ victory over the Nets on Tuesday night.

A standout at the University of North Carolina from 2015 to 2019, Kenny Williams is now in his second season with the Austin Spurs of the NBA G-League. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard out of Richmond, Virginia went undrafted in the summer of 2019, but has been working hard on his game in what was once known as the “development league.”

And Williams has shown some improvement from his rookie season to now, playing more minutes per game, scoring more points and carrying a better overall shooting percentage. Tuesday night was a perfect example of said improvement, as the former Tar Heel sharpshooter scored a team-high 20 points in the Spurs’ 102-88 victory over the Long Island Nets.

Williams hit shots from all over the court en route to a 7-for-12 shooting performance that included an outstanding 6-for-10 mark from three-point range. He also had six rebounds, two assists and a steal in 26 minutes off the Austin bench. Throughout the game, Williams’ teammates found him roaming the perimeter for catch-and-shoot three-pointers that rarely hit anything but net. It was an all-around terrific performance for Williams, who could find himself in the Spurs’ starting lineup with more performances similar to this one.

For the season, Williams is averaging 10.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Williams and the Spurs are currently 9-4, and in fourth-place of the NBA G-League standings. They’re currently one game out of first-place with a pair of games remaining in the regular season.
