The UNC Basketball program just can’t string together important wins as we wrap up the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season. Just a week ago, UNC dominated Louisville at home to earn a big win for their resume. They then followed it up with a awful performance at home against Marquette.

On Saturday, UNC had an incredible comeback as they rallied from 16 points down to upset No. 11 Florida State and earn a signature win for their resume. But as expected, UNC followed it up with a disappointing loss at Syracuse on Monday night.

UNC is still in the field of 68 in terms of the tournament with just one regular season game left as they host Duke. However, they did fall with their loss to Syracuse and it hurt their stock a bit.

According to Joe Lunardi, the Tar Heels fell one complete line from a No. 9 seed to a No.10 seed following Monday’s action:

The Tar Heels are also the last No. 10 seed, pushing them down even further. Another thing to note is that UNC’s upcoming opponent, Duke, would be in the tournament tonight with a win over Georgia Tech per Lunardi.

This could set up a winner get in and a loser need more help game on Saturday with the Tar Heels and Blue Devils.

The bottom line is that the Tar Heels really need a win over Duke on Saturday plus a win in the ACC Tournament. Now, there’s a chance they are still in with a loss to Duke but it would be a very shaky situation going into what could be a wild ACC Tournament.  I think winning one of their next two would certainly put them in the tournament.
