UNC Inspired Air Jordan I’s set to release next week
By Zack Pearson
With the final week of February here, the UNC Basketball program is making a push to reach the 2021 NCAA Tournament as March Madness approaches. With the return of March Madness, it’s coinciding with a few big sneaker releases including a pair of Air Jordan I’s.
Earlier in the week we wrote about a pair of Air Jordan 4’s that are releasing in a Carolina Blue colorway with a new release date. But now, UNC fans can try their luck to get a pair of I’s next weekend.
The Air Jordan I “University Blue” colorway is set to release this Saturday with a Tar Heels touch to them. The upper is dressed in that iconic Carolina Blue colorway and the shoe is accented with white and black throughout. The tongue is branded with the Nike Air logo as well as a black Wings logo, giving off that classic Jordan I look from the 80’s.

While the colorway isn’t directly called “Carolina Blue” or “UNC” it does pay homage to Jordan’s career at the University of North Carolina. After three successful years at UNC, including winning a National Championship and the National Player of the Year award, Jordan opted for the NBA Draft where he was selected by the Chicago Bulls.
He then debuted the Nike Air Jordan I in 1985 in a colorway that became iconic. Since then, the Air Jordan I model has been a favorite of sneaker collectors for years and this release is a must-own for Joran and UNC fans.
The shoe will release on Saturday, March 6th for a retail price of $190. It will be available on the Nike SNRS app as well as other retailers.
