UNC Basketball jumps in latest NCAA NET rankings after Saturday’s win

Roy Williams and the UNC Basketball program really needed a quality win in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season to improve their NCAA Tournament chances. With a few games already postponed, the chances were running out for the Tar Heels.

Going into Saturday’s game, UNC had just three games left not including the ACC Tournament against top 50 teams in the NCAA’s NET rankings. One of them being Louisville who entered Saturday at No. 32. The Tar Heels made the most of their opportunity and dominated the Cardinals with a 45-point win at home.

That win bumped the Tar Heels up 20 spots from No. 53 to No. 33 in the latest NCAA NET rankings, providing a boost for UNC’s NCAA Tournament bid. It also bumped UNC to No. 4 in the ACC, helping with their conference tournament seeding as well.

The win for the Tar Heels gave them a Quad 2 win, putting them at 6-1 in Quad 2 games. UNC can earn another Quad 1 win if they can beat Florida State next week and potentially earn one depending on who they play in the ACC Tournament.

The goal is simple for the Tar Heels moving forward.

UNC needs to stack wins and finish the season and conference tournament strong. Despite it being a down year for the ACC, UNC can still improve their record with games left against Florida State, Syracuse and Duke plus a non-conference game against Marquette this week. They have had games postponed against Boston College, Miami, and Virginia Tech and it doesn’t look like those games will be played as of now.

With the opportunities limited here at the end of February, every game almost feels like a must win for the Tar Heels moving forward.
