UNC Basketball: Will 2022 target visit before deciding?
By Zack Pearson
Roy Williams and his UNC Basketball staff are really focusing in on the 2022 recruiting class and that’s evident with recent activity in terms of recruiting.
The Tar Heels sent out two offers to 2022 recruits last week, adding to their board which consists of 7 total offers. UNC does not have a commitment in the 2022 class just yet but there is still a long ways to go in this cycle.
One recruit that holds an offer from UNC is four-star center Dylan Anderson out of Gilbert, Arizona. The 7-footer is ranked as the No. 50 overall prospect by 247 Sports and has a total of 10 offers so far in his recruitment. Teams like Arizona, Arizona State, and Gonzaga among others have offered this prospect in addition to UNC.
But where does his recruitment stand now?
Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers caught up with Anderson this week to talk about the latest in his recruitment and which teams stand out. Anderson talked his offers and revealed that this recruiting period has been tough due to only being allowed to have virtual visits. He did say that he does want to take official visits before deciding:
"“With impact and restrictions of Covid, it has been difficult to take official visits. The weekly texts, phone conversations, and zoom calls have been great but I am looking forward to actually being able to visit and meet the staff and team in person before making my final decision.”"
That should be good news for the Tar Heels, a program that isn’t in-state or on the West Coast to get him on campus and let him see what the program has to offer. But that’s not possible at this time as the NCAA has extended their recruiting dead period to the end of May for now.
Recruits can technically travel and see campuses, they just cannot meet with coaches, staff or other players.
It’s tough to tell where UNC stands right now in the recruitment for Anderson but there is a long time until this cycle ends.
