Since Mack Brown returned to the UNC Football program for his second stint back in 2018, he’s done a good job of recruiting and building his classes. Among those classes, Brown has been able to find some really good players at the quarterback position.

He started off by flipping four-star quarterback Sam Howell from Florida State, a move that proved to be huge as Howell will enter 2021 as a Heisman favorite. Then, he followed that up by landing four-star Jacolby Criswell and flipping Drake Maye from Alabama to North Carolina.

The Tar Heels have a bright future at the position, even with Howell projected to leave after this season in Chapel Hill. There is talent in the pipeline and now UNC is trying to land another top quarterback prospect in 2022.

Four-star quarterback Cade Klubnik is a top 200 recruit out of Westlake High School in Austin, Texas which is a program noted for churning out NFL talent including Drew Brees, Nick Foles and Justin Tucker. Klubnik is a Pro Style quarterback that has a total of 30 offers and is being pursued by some big programs such as UNC, Auburn, Georgia, Arizona State, Texas, Florida and Penn State among others.

But while his recruitment has taken off as of late, it might be coming to an end soon.

Klubnik caught up with John Garcia Jr. of Sports Illustrated’s All American site to talk about his recruitment and the teams that have kept contact with him over the past few months. That includes North Carolina:

"North Carolina: “I think they’ve got a good future ahead. They’ve been successful the past two years and are a program on the come-up. I like Coach (Mack) Brown a lot, I think he’s a really good guy.”"

Brown and his staff have done a great job of in-state recruiting but his familiarity with the state of Texas and the city of Austin may prevail in this recruitment. The Tar Heels are a legit contender in this recruitment and could end up pulling it off.

Klubnik didn’t reveal an exact date as to when he would decide but he told Garcia Jr. that he plans on making one before the Summertime.
