Where does the UNC Basketball program stand in terms of their latest Bracketology? We break it all down with recent updates

The UNC Basketball program has had a pretty interesting week here as the calendar officially flipped over to February.  The week began with the Tar Heels losing to Clemson on the road before holding on to beat Duke on Saturday night.

But following that game, the Tar Heels were set to take on Miami in Chapel Hill on Monday. The game was then cancelled after video of two UNC players surfaced partying without masks. That postponement could loom large for the Tar Heels in terms of their NCAA Tournament chances as they have a very tough schedule ahead of them. Getting any win right now is huge for their chances and resume.

As we head into this week with UNC taking on a very good Virginia team this weekend, there have been a few updates to Bracketology. Let’s take a look at where the Tar Heels stand  in the updated mock brackets from around the web:

  • ESPN Bracketology (2/9): No. 10 seed in Region 3 vs. No. 7 Florida (TRENDING UP)
  • Andy Katz (2/9): No. 8 seed in Region 3 vs. No. 9 Minnesota (TRENDING UP)
  • CBS Sports Jerry Palm (2/8): One of last teams in (TRENDING DOWN)
  • Bracketville (2/6): No. 9 seed in Region 1 vs. No. 8 Colorado (TRENDING UP)
  • USA Today (2/9): No. 11 UNC vs. No. 6 Drake (TRENDING UP)

The good news is that UNC is in a lot of bracket projections following their big win at Duke, and have remained there for a few weeks now. But the bad news is that the Tar Heels are still on the bubble and a string of losses could doom them.

UNC doesn’t have many impressive wins so far this season and with just under a month left, they have a chance to earn some. They do have Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Syracuse left on their schedule, three of those teams being ranked and ‘Cuse just outside the Top 50. If the Tar Heels can find a way to go 2-2 in that stretch, with a win over a ranked team, it would certainly help.
