The UNC Basketball program currently has two players signed to their 2021 recruiting class as D’Marco Dunn and Dontrez Styles signed their letters of intent back in November. But Roy Williams and his staff still have three active offers out to five-star prospects, hoping to reel in at least one.

Their biggest target is five-star combo guard Hunter Sallis, a Nebraska recruit who is among the best in the country and would be a big asset for the Tar Heels in their backcourt.

UNC has been involved with Sallis for over a year now and as time went on, it appeared as if the Tar Heels and Kentucky Wildcats were heading for a Blue Blood battle to land him. But then things changed and now it appears as if the No. 1 team in the country are the favorites to land him.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs have now emerged as the favorites to land Sallis ahead of his late March announcement and they are picking up a lot of momentum in this race.

The Zag’s have picked up six predictions for Sallis on Rivals.com since the start of January including predictions changed from Kentucky to the Bulldogs. There has been no big update on the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor as there are currently five predictions. But the bad news there for UNC is that none of the five are for the Tar Heels with three going to Gonzaga and two to Kentucky.

This is certainly not good news for the Tar Heels heading into that decision.

While there were hopes that Sallis, Chet Holmgren or Patrick Baldwin would join UNC’s class, the realization now is that they will have just a two-man class. The focus for UNC should now shift to 2022 where they have a good amount of prospects on their radar. However, they have already lost a recruiting battle to Kentucky for Skyy Clark.

Next. Will UNC offer this 4-star PF?. dark
