What UNC Basketball’s 2022 recruiting class could look like
By Zack Pearson
Jaden Bradley, PG 5-star
The Raleigh native has been one of North Carolina’s top target for months now after offering him back in March of 2020. The Tar Heels were considered a favorite for most of the Summer as well, holding good position in his recruitment.
But as of now, they appear to be battling Kentucky who has zoned in on Bradley as a target.
The 6-foot-2, 178-pound Bradley transferred to IMG Academy over the Summer where he’s really helped his game. He’s currently the No. 8 ranked prospect overall in the 2022 recruiting class and would be a big get for the Tar Heels. Bradley would provide an instant impact player on the wing as someone who can score from anywhere on the court.
While it doesn’t appear Bradley is close to making a decision, what appears to be clear is that the Tar Heels are going to have to find a way to beat out Kentucky, something they couldn’t do for Skyy Clark a few months back.
Mark Mitchell, SF 5-star
Another big five-star target for the Tar Heels is small forward Mark Mitchell, a 6-foot-8 product out of Kansas that has a total of 9 offers. Mitchell is one of the top recruits on UNC’s big board as Roy Williams and his staff have kept in contact for weeks now.
With a need on the wing, Mitchell would make a lot of sense for the Tar Heels as his game is polished on both sides of the floor. Mitchell is ranked as the No. 15 overall recruit in the 247 Sports recruiting rankings but has yet to trim his list down.
As of now, it appears as if UNC is a legit contender to land Mitchell but they may have some ground to make up.
Jarace Walker, PF 5-star
Another five-star that is high on UNC’s list is power forward Jarace Walker. With the emergence of UNC’s bigs this season, it’s likely the Tar Heels will be without three of them by the time Walker would enroll with the program. So there is certainly a need for a dominating big man that can score in the paint.
Enter Walker.
He could end up being UNC’s most important recruiting target in this class, especially if Sharpe decides to leave early. Walker is a really good player that can be dominant on the offensive end of the floor and a key factor for the Tar Heels moving forward. UNC is showing significant interest, staying in contact with Walker throughout the Summer and Fall.
