Rejoice UNC and college football fans!

EA Sports delivered some wonderful news on Tuesday morning, revealing plans to reboot their college football game titled “NCAA Football” ending a long streak of 7 years without a new title for the game. The news rocked the social media world as EA Sports dropped a teaser photo for its return on Tuesday.

Here is what they posted ahead of the announcement:

The new edition of the game will be available for NextGen consoles only, meaning you will need to have a PS5 or an XBOX Series X or S to play it. This will be the first new edition of the game since Michigan’s Denard Robinson was on the cover in 2014. Yeah, it’s been that long.

While this is good news, there is still some things unclear about the game.

There was no official release date just yet meaning we could have to wait potentially another year for a 2022 release. Typically games take 8+ months to make in the process, unless EA Sports has already started to cook something up.

Another thing to note is that this will NOT be NCAA licensed, to my knowledge. Instead, EA Sports is working with the Collegiate Licensing Company for schools to be in the game. In previous Madden games, there have been certain NCAA schools involved as they went individually with a license. UNC was NOT one of those programs but it’s likely they will be in the NCAA game.

The rosters are also very likely to be default, meaning no player names on the jerseys. NCAA rules prohibit EA Sports from paying players to use their names, images and likenesses in the game.

However, this is still great news as soon you’ll likely be able to take control of the UNC Football program and build your virtual dynasty. And what better time with the Tar Heels ascending and likely being one of the top 30 teams ranked in the upcoming game?
