Former UNC Basketball standout Luke Maye earned weekly MVP honors overseas for his play last week in Italy posting a double-double.

While some UNC Basketball players are finding success in the NBA for the 2020-21 season that is ongoing, a few others are finding their ways overseas as well.

One of those players is Luke Maye, a player that will forever live as a legend for the Tar Heels, hitting a shot to send them into the Final Four over Kentucky. Maye did have a small stint in the G-League following his four-year career in Chapel Hill but now he’s standing out overseas.

The forward earned the EuroCup MVP of the Week honors for Dolomiti Energia Trento last week as he had a big game against Lokomotiv. Maye finished the game with a double-double scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds in the win for Dolomiti.

The 15 rebounds were a new club record for Dolomiti in EuroCup play as Maye continues to impress in his rookie season. So far, Maye has been one of the best rookies in the league and posted a career-high performance index rating of 34.

After spending his first season in the G-League with the Wisconsin Heard, Maye decided to go overseas and signed with Dolomiti in Italy on July 18 2020. Maye has led the team in scoring in six games this season after grabbing a spot in the starting lineup.  If Maye keeps this up, we could see him earn more MVP’s of the week in the near future.

In addition to Maye, former UNC standout Deon Thompson was noted as finishing in the Top 5 in PIR with 24 last week. Thompson is currently playing for Unicaja in Spain this season.
