A top UNC Basketball recruiting target has officially set his announcement date and will commit to a program in late March

The UNC Basketball program currently has two players signed to their 2021 recruiting class but is in heavy pursuit of three more prospects. Roy Williams and his staff are hoping to land one of those three five-star prospects and officially call it a wrap on that class.

On Sunday, one of those targets provided a key update to his recruitment and when it will officially end.

Five-star combo guard Hunter Sallis revealed on Sunday afternoon that he will officially announce his decision on Friday, March 26th. The Nebraska native took to Twitter to break the news:

Sallis is down to his final 8 schools and will officially decide between UNC, Gonzaga, Kentucky, UCLA, Creighton, Kansas,Oregon  and Iowa State. The five-star prospect is ranked No. 6 overall, No. 2 combo guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings.

He received his official offer from UNC a year ago, and since then the Tar Heels have been considered a legit threat. Many believe that this was a two-team race between North Carolina and Kentucky for the longest time but as the weeks have gone on, Gonzaga has also made a big push.

Still, we could be heading for a Blue Blood battle between the Tar Heels and Wildcats in the coming weeks.

UNC would love to add a combo guard that can come in and play in their backcourt right away next season. Although R.J. Davis and Caleb Love have played better of late, adding a player like Sallis would be a huge boost to that backcourt especially as a combo guard. That would give UNC more depth as well including Anthony Harris returning for another year.
