With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging on, we have seen the impact it’s had on the college sports seasons. Both the UNC Football and Basketball programs led by Mack Brown and Roy Williams have had to deal with this “new normal” in terms of navigating their season.

But while the pandemic is still here in 2021, there is a little light at the end of the tunnel.

Vaccinations have started to roll out across the country with different states currently in different phases. For the Tar Heels, some good news was revealed on Friday ahead of the weekend as both Williams and Brown confirmed they received the first dose of the vaccine:

UNC’s campus has a few vaccination sites and one of them had a few extra shots available on Thursday, allowing the coaches to receive it. Prior to this, the university had designated groups of people close to these sites eligible to receive the vaccine if extras were available.

This is certainly good news as the basketball season rolls on and football begins their spring workouts in just a few months. Both coaches have done an excellent job in wearing their face coverings and enforcing social distancing throughout the year.

Aside from an outbreak in the Summer, the UNC Football program had a great plan and was relatively safe in terms of COVID-19 during their previous season.

Now, Williams looks to do the same with his team as we hit the stretch run of the 2020-21 college basketball season. We also should note that some UNC assistants also received the vaccine including Sean May and Hubert Davis. There is no word if other assistants on the football team or when players will receive their vaccines.
