The UNC Basketball program is hoping to finish off their 2021 class with one more commitment as we hit this stretch run in 2021. But while that cycle is coming down to the wire in the Spring, the 2022 one is starting to heat up.

Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of news surrounding the 2022 recruiting class and North Carolina targets. The latest is a target that has yet to get an offer from the program but does think highly of the Tar Heels.

Four-star shooting guard Isaac McKneely has 19 offers in his recruitment but recently trimmed his list to 8 and is focusing on Kentucky, West Virginia, Illinois, Louisville, Purdue, Indiana, Virginia and North Carolina. All of those programs on that list have offered McKneely except for Kentucky and the Tar Heels, yet they are still in the running.

Just recently, McKneely talked to Jamie Shaw of Rivals.com about his recruitment and broke down all 8 of his finalists. The guard did have some good things to say about UNC:

"“I have built a good relationship with one of the assistants. I am good friends with Puff Johnsonwho is currently on the roster and he’s told me great things. UNC is a great school on and off the court. I also think I could do really well playing for Coach (Roy) Williams."

One of the interesting parts of that is him talking about being  good friends with current freshman Donovan “Puff” Johnson. McKneely is also close to Puff’s brother, Cam, who spent two seasons at UNC before being a Lottery Pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He even said that Puff is helping recruit McKneely to UNC a few months back, which should be a big positive for the Tar Heels.

While UNC has yet to offer, the interest appears to be high still and an offer could come very soon.

In his junior season, McKneely is seeing his stock rise as he climbed 37 spots to No. 57 in the Rivals rankings. If he keeps it up, it won’t be shocking to see him get inside the Top 50 and continue to raise his stock.

UNC will have to beat out UK for this 5-star. dark. Next
