Class of 2021 UNC Basketball recruit Dontrez styles suffered an injury on Friday night during a high school game but is okay

While the UNC Basketball program continues to navigate through the tough season despite the pandemic, so are high schools across the country. That includes both class of 2021 recruits Dontrez Styles and D’Marco Dunn.

Both are playing their senior year in the state of North Carolina before they hit the UNC campus in Chapel Hill later on this year. For both recruits, they are hoping to put together an impressive final season and improve their stock.

But for Styles, he had a scary moment in his senior season on Friday night.

During Kinston’s game vs South Lenoir on Friday night, Styles went up for an alley-oop dunk and landed awkwardly on the court hard early in the first quarter. He stayed down for a good amount of time as trainers looked at him and made sure nothing was wrong.

Styles eventually got up and walked off under his own power but did so with a neck brace on as it was a scary scene in the gym.

The good news for Styles is that he tweeted following the game that he is okay and will be back soon:

Any time a player lands that hard and has to be attended to, it’s not a good thing. But for Styles, thankfully the injury was nothing severe and he can get back on the court soon.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward committed to North Carolina back in April as the Tar Heels’ first recruit in the 2021 class. He’s ranked No. 55 overall, No. 10 small forward and the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings.

Next. One UNC Basketball player is raising is draft stock. dark
