UNC Basketball: Another solid performance for Cam Johnson in Suns win
Cameron Johnson, former UNC sharpshooter and Phoenix Suns reserve wing, scored 16 points off the bench in a 123-115 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
Phoenix Suns small forward Cameron Johnson was back at it on Wednesday night, scoring 16 points off the bench in a 123-115 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Johnson’s outstanding performance in just 23 minutes helped fuel the Suns to victory over the struggling Raptors, and has them atop the Western Conference standings with a 6-2 record.
Johnson had scored just 17 points in his previous two games combined, but notched his fifth double-digit scoring game of the season against Toronto. He was 6-for-10 from the floor, and 4-for-7 from three-point range. It marks the seventh time in the Suns’ first eight games of the season that Johnson has connected on at least two three-pointers. He’s connected on three or more on four occasions.
For the season, Johnson is averaging 13.1 points per game to go along with 2.8 rebounds and an assist. He’s also committed just four turnovers in 179 minutes of play. He’s shooting 51 percent overall this season, and an outstanding 42 percent from beyond the arc. The second-year wing out of North Carolina hasn’t scored less than eight points in any one game this season, and continues to show exactly why he was worth the No. 11 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Johnson and the Suns will take the court again on Friday night when they travel to Detroit to take on the struggling 1-7 Pistons in a matchup that pits the Western Conference’s first-place team against the Eastern Conference’s last-place team.
