A top UNC Basketball five-star recruiting target still wants to visit Chapel Hill before he makes his final decision according to his coach

Roy Williams and his staff are hoping to add one more recruit to their UNC Basketball 2021 recruiting class which currently consists of just two recruits. With Dontrez Styles and D’Marco Dunn are signed, the Tar Heels have three active offers out.

Left on their list for the 2021 class is five-star recruits Patrick Baldwin, Chet Holmgren and Hunter Sallis. While Baldwin and Holmgren are long shots, Sallis has become their top target left and a player the Tar Heels really need in their backcourt.

Sallis is a five-star combo guard that is ranked No. 6 overall, No. 2 combo guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska per 247 Sports recruiting rankings. He’s down to a final eight of UNC, Creighton, Gonzaga, Kansas, Iowa State, Kentucky, Oregon, and UCLA. But many believe that this is a three team race between the Tar Heels, Wildcats and Bulldogs.

Since those three have really emerged themselves as the favorites, the recruiting dead period has limited Sallis in his recruitment. There are no visits allowed right now and that has potentially delayed his final decision.

Sallis’ head coach at Millard High School in Omaha, Tim Cannon, spoke to Kentucky.com to update his recruitment. In the interview, Cannon revealed that Sallis still wants to take visits in his recruitment including to UNC and Kentucky:

"The dead period also began before Sallis received scholarship offers from Kentucky and North Carolina, two schools he specifically wanted to see before making a decision. So that decision was put on hold.“It does mean a lot to him,” Cannon said. “He has talked a lot — and his parents have talked a lot — about wanting to be able to make official visits.”"

The recruiting dead period is set to expire on April 15th but that’s pending the COVID-19 pandemic and if the vaccine is widely available at that time. Still, that’s great news for UNC as it appears as if they will still have a shot to impress.

Recent reports have linked Sallis to Kentucky and Gonzaga as the favorites but don’t count the Tar Heels out just yet. They still have a shot at landing him but getting him on campus would be huge.
