UNC Basketball: Tar Heels reportedly reach out to Caleb Mills?
By Zack Pearson
After a day, the UNC Basketball program has reached out Caleb Mills after he announced he was leaving Houston
The UNC Basketball program could be looking to add some additional help for their roster which has struggled to shoot the basketball this season.
Earlier in the week Houston guard Caleb Mills announced his intentions to transfer from the Cougars effective immediately. The school released an official statement on Mills leaving, as the Cougars are currently a Top 10 team.
The reason cited that Mills wanted to play closer to home and his family:
Mills was voted as the preseason player of the year in the American Athletic Conference but struggled to get on the court as he dealt with an ankle injury. Now, he’s made the decision to transfer and the Tar Heels are a legit threat to land him.
Per 247 Sports’ Brandon Jenkins, the Tar Heels along with Kentucky and Texas are among the programs inquire about Mills to gain some interest. In addition to those three programs, N.C. State, Tennessee, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Georgia and Auburn have also reached out to him.
The Tar Heels do make a lot of sense in regards to him wanting to play close to home. Mills is a Swannanoa, North Carolina native and joining the Tar Heels would allow him to play in-state and closer to his family.
The sophomore guard is averaging 9.8 points per game this season for the Cougars and is a legit shooter that can provide some much-needed scoring for the program that he chooses. While it’s in the early stages of his transfer request, it’s good news that the Tar Heels are at least showing interest in him.
