Former UNC basketball sharpshooter nets season-high 15 points in Philadelphia victory over Washington

Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard Danny Green scored a season-high 15 points in a 141-136 shootout victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. He did it on his best shooting night of the young season, knocking down 5-of-10 shots overall, and 5-of-8 from the three-point line.

It marked the third consecutive game that Green — who has gotten off to a very slow start in his first eight games with the 76ers — has notched double-digit scoring performances. After scoring just 22 points in his first five games combined, he recorded a pair of 13-point performances against the Charlotte Hornets before his best game of the season on Wednesday.

Another positive sign for Green and the 76ers is that his three-point accuracy over the past week has been outstanding. He began the season hitting just four of his first 19 attempts from long-range, but has connected on 11-of-22 in his last three games. His overall shooting efficiency during that time span has improved, too, converting 14-of-27 shots through three games in 2021, as opposed to the 32 percent mark he set in five December games.

There’s no doubt that Green has value in the 76ers’ lineup even when he isn’t knocking down shots on the offensive end of the court. But when he’s shooting like he has over the past week, he’s a lethal player to have roaming the perimeter on a team that currently boasts the league’s best record.

Green and company withstood 60 points from Bradley Beal, who put on a performance for the ages against the 76ers. He was 20-for-35 from the floor, and hit seven three-points en route to his career-high scoring night. If it hadn’t been for Beal, who’s averaging better than 30 points per game to start the season, the 76ers would have won going away.
