For Saturday Night’s Orange Bowl, the UNC Football program is going with throwback jerseys to celebrate the 1990’s decade

The UNC Football team is playing in its first ever Orange Bowl and the biggest bowl game in decades on Saturday night when they take the primetime stage against No. 5 Texas A&M.

Despite multiple opt-outs including three of their best players on offense and their top player on defense, Mack Brown’s team is looking to prove that they belong at the next level. And when UNC does take the field on Saturday night, they will do so in style.

The program announced on Thursday that they are bringing out their 1990’s-era throwback uniforms for the game:

This isn’t the first time the Tar Heels have worn these throwbacks from the 90’s era this season either. They wore them in their win over Wake Forest earlier in the year as the Tar Heels rallied from three scores down in the second half to beat the Demon Deacons.

The Carolina Blue, navy blue and white uniforms pay homage to the 90’s decade in which UNC football was on the rise backed by Brown’s first stint. The Tar Heels appeared in six bowl games in that decade, going 5-1 and all under Brown. The head coach had the Tar Heels ranked inside the Top 5 and even as high as No. 4 in that 1997 season.

In what is a big game for the Tar Heels’ future, they hope their offense can still put up big numbers and score points against a good Aggies team that is playing with a chip on their shoulder after being let out of the College Football Playoff.
