Former UNC Basketball standout Coby White helps the Chicago Bulls get their first win of the new season on Tuesday night in D.C.

A new era of Chicago Bulls basketball has begun this season as the franchise moved on from Jim Boylen and hired former Florida Gators head coach Billy Donovan. With Donovan in charge and a front office shake up that includes bringing on Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley, the franchise is hoping to build around their young talent, including Coby White.

The former UNC Basketball standout is in his second year with the Bulls after being selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. White showed signs of breaking out in his freshman season before the year was cut short due to COVID-19 and now he hopes to take that next step this season.

The Bulls are off to a slow start at 1-3 including blowing a late lead to Golden State. But on Tuesday, they picked up their first win of the year in Washington.

White scored 18 points in the Bulls 115-107 win over the Wizards. While it wasn’t a season-high for White in points, the guard turned in an impressive performance with 18 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. He shot 6 of 14 from the field including 2 of 5 from the three-point line.

Through the first four games of the season, White has averaged 14.8 points, 5.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. This is his first year starting right away and he’s playing in the backcourt with scorer Zach LaVine.

It hasn’t been a fantastic start from White as he is struggling from the field, shooting 37 percent from the field but he is shooting close to 40 percent from the three-point line. This year will be key in White’s development and for a franchise that could tear it down mid-year, it’s also an audition for him to stay in the Windy City.
