UNC Basketball: Tar Heels 2022 target set to cut list soon
By Zack Pearson
A big North Carolina Tar Heels recruiting target in the 2022 class is set to make an update to his list and cutting his teams down to 10
With a two-man recruiting class for the 2021 cycle, Roy Williams and his North Carolina Tar Heels’s staff have their eyes on future recruits to add to the program.
It’s been a bit of a rocky start here for the 2020-21 college basketball season and we are seeing what happens when a team struggles to shoot the ball. Putting an emphasis on getting scorers on the wing should be a priority for this program moving forward.
While UNC doesn’t have a commitment in the 2022 class yet, Williams and his staff have their eyes on a few players. One of those recruits is four-star combo guard Nick Smith out of Arkansas.
The 6-foot-4, 170-pound guard has a total of 17 offers in his recruitment but has yet to receive one from the Tar Heels. Still, even with no offer yet, it sounds like the Tar Heels are still a legit contender in the recruitment for the four-star guard. Now, Smith is ready to make a big update for his recruitment as he will trim his list down to 10:
Smith is ranked as the No. 27 overall player, No. 2 combo guard and No. 1 player in the state of Arkansas per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings. He would be a huge get for Williams and his backcourt as he would fit the need and what UNC wants to do with running the fast break.
Most importantly, he’s a good scorer that can come in and shoot it well. Smith has the ability to score from all over the floor and is a knockdown shooter, something UNC needs.
