The UNC Football program landed its second commitment in the 2022 recruiting class as a four-star defensive back committed on Friday

After turning in an impressive 2021 recruiting class during the early signing period last week, UNC Football head coach Mack Brown is off to a good start in the 2022 class.

The Tar Heels earned a commitment from a four-star recruit last week when Tychaun Chapman picked UNC and offered his verbal commitment. That verbal got UNC on the board for the 2022 class as he was the first to commit. But now he’s not the only one.

Brown and his staff received a nice Christmas present on Friday when four-star defensive back Tayon Holloway offered his verbal commitment to the Tar Heels. Holloway made the announcement on Friday afternoon with this video, joining Chapman in UNC’s class:

Holloway is ranked as the No. 136 overall recruit, No. 15 defensive back and No. 5 player in the state of Virginia per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings. UNC now has two four-star recruits and two players from the state of Virginia in their 2022 class.

With 14 offers, Holloway picked the Tar Heels over his final six of Florida State, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech.

Holloway is a Kinston native but moved to Virginia as he’s part of a military family. Virginia has been a nice recruiting hotbed for Brown and his staff as of late, landing Tony Grimes and Cam Kelly most recently out of that state. Winning in-state battles is crucial but if you’re able to pluck from another big state as well, that’s an added bonus.

With the commitment of Holloway, UNC’s 2022 class is ranked No. 15 nationally and No. 3 in the ACC. It’s very early so this ranking will certainly change over the next year.
