Mack Brown and the Tar Heels land their first commitment for the 2022 recruiting class as a four-star receiver announces
The UNC Football program is officially on the board for the 2022 recruiting class, landing their first verbal commitment in the cycle.
After Mack Brown and his staff turned in a Top 15 recruiting class for the 2021 cycle on Early Signing Day earlier in the week, they received some good news regarding a future class on Saturday. Four-star receiver Tychaun Chapman officially pledged his verbal to the Tar Heels, doing so on his Instagram Live.
Chapman picked UNC over four other finalists: Alabama, Florida State, Maryland, and Penn State, after picking up 24 offers total.
Chapman is ranked as the No. 163 overall recruit, No. 20 wide receiver and No. 7 player in the state of Virginia per the 247 Sports rankings. He’s a prospect that brings a lot of speed to the table and could be a perfect fit for UNC’s Air Raid offense in the slot.
At 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, Chapman is a shifty receiver out of Princess Anne in Virginia Bech, the same high school that current UNC defensive back and former five-star recruit Tony Grimes attended. Chapman played a few different positions on the offense, making him a dynamic recruit as a playmaker.
With Dazz Newsome leaving after this season and Dyami Brown being a junior, UNC is going to have to replace them in terms of speed and production for the future. Chapman is a legit candidate to do that and will get to play alongside 2021 quarterback Drake Maye.
This is UNC’s first commitment in 2022 as Brown hopes to build off a fantastic class this past year that is all signed. UNC still has several offers out to prospects and they are far from done in terms of adding to this class.
