Will the UNC Football team earn their first commitment in the 2022 recruiting class? A top target is set to announce his decision this weekend

The UNC Football program just signed their 18-man 2021 recruiting class this past week for Early Signing Day, as Mack Brown turned in his second true recruiting class in his second stint. While 2020 was a really good class, the 2021 class is ranked even higher and can be a program-changer for the program.

Now, Brown and his staff are hoping to reel in their first recruit in the 2022 class this weekend.

Four-star wide receiver Tychaun Chapman is a big target on UNC’s 2022 recruiting board and is set to make his decision. Chapman will announce his college choice on Saturday just a day after the Early Signing Period and it could be a big day for the Tar Heels.

Chapman is ranked as the No. 163 overall recruit, No. 20 wide receiver and No. 7 player in the state of Virginia per the 247 Sports rankings. He has a total of 24 offers but is down to just five programs: Florida State, Alabama, Maryland, Penn State and North Carolina.

But going into decision date who is the favorite?

According to the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor, the Tar Heels have received all four predictions from analysts with an average of 7 confidence. That’s certainly good news for the Tar Heels although it’s no guarantee they are the pick. On Rivals, the Tar Heels are also the popular pick in their FutureCast predictions.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Chapman is a speedster and can be a weapon in an air raid attack offense that the Tar Heels run. His quickness makes him ideal for a slot player and a legit deep threat that can take the top off the defense. 247 Sports recruiting analyst Brian Dohn also noted that Chapman has strong hands and is very smooth in and out of his breaks.

Check out some tape on Chapman:

With several offers out in the 2022 recruiting class, Brown and his staff hope to get on the board in what is a very difficult time for recruiting.
